But First, Coffee.

Coffee. You’ve seen the different slogans, sayings and cartoons about people and their coffee. It’s what powers most people in the morning, or for some, all day long!

Cup of Joe. Cuppa Joe. Java Joe. OCD – Obsessive Coffee Disorder. Today’s Mood is Brought to You By Coffee. The list goes on… So let me ask you, are you a coffee person? Do you take it black or with cream or sugar? And what exactly is in that cup of that you are drinking? For me it’s always Dallmayr from Germany! With over 300 years of experience of outstanding product and quality service, you can’t go wrong with this coffee! Dallmayr caters to all varieties of coffee drinkers, from delicate to robust, they have the perfect kind of coffee to suit your coffee needs!

This is the one brand of coffee that I can drink that will not anger my stomach. A lot of times I might be out with friends or family and I have no choice in the brand of coffee there is to drink. I notice when I drink other coffees that my stomach may get upset, but I don’t have that issue with Dallmayr. While today I had the Dallmayr Classic in the coffee pot this morning, my favorite is the Dallmayr Prodomo! Depending on the day or my mood, it will depend on what is brewing in that coffee pot of mine!

Dallmayr explains how you should assess your coffee:

Assess coffee like the experts.

The overall impression that we get of a variety of coffee is a result of the interplay of its aroma, body and acidity.

The aroma is perceived through the smell (the nose) and the taste (the tongue). Whilst the nose can distinguish between an infinite number of nuances, the tongue is restricted to sweet, sour, salt, bitter and umami.

The body is the impression which the coffee leaves in the mouth. To get an idea of this, simply imagine the difference between water and milk in your mouth.

The acidity describes the lively, fruity properties of the coffee – which are particularly desired in arabica coffee.

So there you have it. And did I forget to mention… HAPPY NATIONAL GOURMET COFFEE DAY! I hope you enjoy your coffee today, no matter where you get it from or what brand you drink! But if you haven’t tried Dallmayr, you are missing out! And if you haven’t had Dallmayr, go get yourself some!

“It’s The Mozart Chocolate!”

I had the opportunity to help pass out chocolate samples and make some custom chocolate bags for customers this weekend at a local grocery store just down the road from my home. There was a variety of chocolates to be sampled, along with cinnamon stars and some non-alcoholic glüh-punsch. But it was the chocolate that people were eyeing the most as they walked into the entrance of the store.

One particular chocolate brand caught the eyes of several people walking past our samples. Just about every person who recognized the packaging and the image on the front all said the same thing, “I know that chocolate! It’s the Mozart chocolate!” If you are a chocolate connoisseur, you may recognize the red packaging or the famous face of the composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, then you know Reber Chocolate Specialties. And if you know Reber, then you know the Genuine Reber Mozart-Kugeln!3510-Mozart-Kugel It’s a delicious and exquisite piece of chocolate! The Reber Mozart Kugeln has a creamy hazelnut chocolate nougat filling with freshly ground almonds and pistachio marzipan, enrobed twice with milk and dark chocolate. If you have never had one, you need to go find one! It’s amazing! You don’t have to take my word for it, if you were with me on Saturday, you would have heard people raving to their family members about the Reber chocolates they enjoyed while visiting and traveling throughout Europe.

Above I added a stock photo of the Mozart Kugeln, and to show you that YES, it really does look like that on the inside, I shall provide you proof of my dissected confection! You can truly, actually SEE the milk chocolate under that top layer of dark chocolate!

Reber has been around for 150 years making their confections of sophisticated taste. With a long history in Munich, Reber’s products are all made without artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. Reber uses the best ingredients for all their products, from fresh pistachios to the finest praline. It was so fun listening to people talk about where they were when they were enjoying their Reber chocolate! Some people found Reber in Germany or Austria and others found the delicious confections in airports and shops along the way. There was a woman from out-of-town visiting her parents and when she saw the Reber packaging, she immediately started sharing memories of her past adventures overseas and how she tried this chocolate and she absolutely enjoyed it. I have to say, I really enjoyed being a part of conversations of the people who came in and out of the store this past weekend! It’s really neat how something like chocolate or other food or beverage item can bring memories back to people.

Reber has a variety of different chocolates to choose from besides the Mozart Kugeln, they do offer chocolate bars and other specialty chocolate pieces with varying fillings. There are many things to choose from when it comes to Reber! There is something to please everyone! Earlier this year I did talk about the Reber Fascination Box, that is a great gift to give anyone: boss, family or friend! So you have options to choose from when it comes to Reber! Perhaps you have never tried it – if you haven’t, it may become a new favorite! Perhaps you may pass this along to a friend, loved one or co-worker and maybe you’ll remind them of some special moments in their life!

National Coffee Day. What’s In Your Cup?

It is Friday morning and the sun is shining its rays in-between the scattered clouds that are floating around outside. We are finally welcoming some cooler weather here in Michigan and last night it appears to have rained just a little bit! We sure needed it, it’s been three weeks since we’ve had rain! Hopefully the grass, trees and plants got a little perk from last night’s rain!

Speaking of perks, the one perk I look forward to every morning is a nice hot cup of coffee. Every evening, before I flop my head down on my pillow, I double-check the coffee machine in the kitchen to make sure I’ve got my coffee ready for its scheduled 5:55 a.m. brew time. We can be pretty picky with coffee in our house, and we finally found one brand that we can all agree upon. That coffee brand would be Dallmayr. It is true, I pretty much cannot function with at least ONE cup of coffee in the morning, so if I haven’t had my coffee yet, you may want to wait until I’ve had some caffeinated coffee fill my veins!

The coffee machine is set to brew just before we wake up, so when that alarm clock does go off, it’s the Dallmayr coffee our senses smell and help open our eye lids. Dallmayr’s Prodomo coffee is what’s stashed in our cupboards. Each variety of Dallmayr coffee has a unique taste of its own, so if you see other varieties, do make sure to try them out!

Prodomo is the most often drank coffee in the house and it’s fl164320_loavor profile comes from the finest highland 100% Arabica beans from only the best coffee-growing areas in the world, originating in Ethiopia. Prodomo could be considered a medium roast, medium acidic and slightly intense flavor profile.  While it has full caffeine content, it is refined to be free of irritants and bitterness. Prodomo is a filter coffee and also comes in  whole beans. If you do have a coffee grinder on your machine or you have a separate coffee grinder, set the grinding level to fine. Can you believe that Dallmayr coffee goes back 300 years? Yes, that’s correct! With a history going back 300 years, you know they have they expertise and knowledge of fine coffee products! Based in Munich, Germany, Dallmayr has a long tradition of being the leader among luxury brand coffees.

So fill your coffee mug, sip and enjoy! It’s National Coffee Day and we want to know what you are drinking in that mug of yours! Gourmet International does carry many different varieties of Dallmayr coffee. We will further explore the brand and varieties as we travel down this gourmet adventure together. I’d normally like end with a nibble, nibble… but today: Sip, sip!

184th Oktoberfest is in Full Effect!

It is September, but why is Oktoberfest already in full swing in Munich? Historically, the very first Oktoberfest began in 1810. Oktoberfest began as an event honoring Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig’s marriage to Princess Therese von Scachsen-Hildburghausen. Oktoberfest began on October 12, 1810 and the final day was October 17, ending with a horse race. As more and more visitors came to Germany to celebrate, eventually the dates shifted to a September start for better weather and warmer nights to enjoy festivities.

The 184th Oktoberfest began this year on September 16 and will end on October 3. From tapping the first beer barrel to big brass concerts and parades, lots of fun is had during Oktoberfest! This year (2017), an official estimate for opening weekend at Oktoberfest was 600,000 people! We, at Gourmet International, celebrate Oktoberfest every year and offer a variety of products that can be enjoyed during this festive time of year! Prost!
